This policy explains what personal data CS2GamblingReviews collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it and what rights you have. We've tried to keep it readable. In short: we collect very little, our own analytics don't use cookies, and we don't sell your data or build advertising profiles.

1. Who we are

CS2GamblingReviews is an informational website that reviews CS2 gambling sites. It is run by the operator of CS2GamblingReviews ("we", "us" or "our"), who is the controller of the personal data described in this policy for the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR and similar laws.

You can contact us about anything in this policy at contact@cs2gamblingreviews.com.

We don't operate any gambling service. When you leave our site for a gambling site, that site's own privacy policy applies to whatever you do there.

2. The data we collect and why

2.1 Cookieless analytics

We run our own first-party analytics to understand which pages people read and how they find us. This analytics system doesn't set cookies or store anything on your device.

To count unique visitors without tracking you, we combine your IP address and your browser's user agent string with a random value (a "salt") that is replaced every 24 hours, and hash the result with SHA-256. The resulting identifier tells us that two page views on the same day probably came from the same visitor. Because the salt changes daily, the same visitor gets a different identifier each day, so we can't follow you from one day to the next, and the identifier can't realistically be turned back into an IP address. We never store your raw IP address.

Alongside that daily identifier, we record:

  • the page you viewed, and the referring page if your browser sends one
  • your approximate country, taken from a header added by our content delivery network or, where that isn't available, estimated from your browser's time zone
  • your device type (for example desktop, mobile or tablet), browser and operating system
  • your screen size, recorded as a broad size bucket rather than exact dimensions
  • your browser's language setting
  • how long you spent on the page

We use this to see which content is useful, to fix pages that don't work well on certain devices, and to decide what to write next. We don't use it to identify you, and we don't combine it with other data to do so.

2.2 Affiliate click logs

When you click a link to one of the gambling sites we review, we log the click so we can see which pages and buttons people use and reconcile our affiliate earnings. Each record contains which site the link points to, which of our pages you clicked it on, the time of the click, the same daily hashed identifier described in section 2.1, and your approximate country.

We don't pass your name, email address or other personal data to the gambling site. The site receives the referral tag in the link, and anything it collects after you arrive is covered by its own privacy policy.

2.3 Contact form and email

If you use our contact form or email us, we receive your name, your email address, the subject and your message, along with anything else you choose to include. We use this to read and reply to your message and, if it's a correction or a report about a site, to act on it.

We keep these messages for up to 12 months and then delete them, unless we need to keep a particular message longer to deal with a legal claim.

The site can also use Google Analytics 4, a service provided by Google. It is off by default. It runs only if the operator of CS2GamblingReviews has switched it on, and even then only after you've agreed to it through our consent banner. If you decline, or don't respond to the banner, Google Analytics doesn't load.

When it does run, Google Analytics sets cookies (listed in our cookie policy) and collects information about your visit, such as the pages you view, your approximate location, device and browser details and how you interact with the site. Google processes that data under its own terms and privacy policy. You can withdraw your consent at any time, as explained in the cookie policy.

2.5 Server logs

Like any website, the site is delivered by a hosting provider and content delivery network that automatically process technical data when your browser requests a page. This typically includes your IP address, the date and time, the URL requested, the response code and your user agent. The providers use it to deliver the site, keep it secure and investigate faults or attacks, and keep it for a limited period under their own retention settings. We don't use these logs for analytics or marketing.

2.6 Cookies and local storage

We use a small number of cookies and browser storage entries, mostly to remember your language and display preferences. The full list, with durations, is in our cookie policy.

Under the GDPR we need a legal basis for each use of personal data. Ours are:

What we doLegal basis
Cookieless analyticsLegitimate interests: understanding how the site is used and improving it, with a method designed to minimize what we learn about any individual
Affiliate click logsLegitimate interests: measuring which content works and reconciling affiliate payments
Replying to contact messagesLegitimate interests in responding to you, or taking steps you've asked us to take
Server and security logsLegitimate interests: keeping the site available and secure
Language and display preferencesLegitimate interests in remembering a choice you've made
Google Analytics 4, if enabledYour consent, which you can withdraw at any time
Keeping records the law requiresLegal obligation

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we've weighed them against your rights and freedoms, and you can object at any time (see section 8).

4. What we don't do

  • We don't sell your personal data, and we don't rent or trade it.
  • We don't build advertising profiles or use your data for targeted advertising.
  • We don't use our analytics to follow you across other websites.
  • We don't make decisions about you based solely on automated processing.
  • We don't ask for sensitive data such as health or financial information. Please don't include it in messages to us.

5. Who we share data with

We share personal data only with service providers that help us run the site, and only as far as they need it:

  • Hosting and content delivery providers, which store the site and its database and deliver pages to you.
  • Email providers, which deliver and store messages sent through our contact form or to our email address.
  • Google, only if Google Analytics 4 is enabled and you've consented to it.

These providers process data on our instructions under data processing terms, except where they act as independent controllers under their own policies. We may also disclose data where the law requires it, to respond to a valid legal request, or to protect our rights or the safety of others. If the site is ever transferred to a new operator, the data described here would transfer with it and remain covered by this policy until it is changed with notice.

6. International transfers

Our providers may process data in countries other than your own, including outside the European Economic Area and the UK. Where that happens and the law requires it, we rely on recognized safeguards such as an adequacy decision or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, and the UK equivalents. Contact us if you'd like more information about a specific transfer.

7. How long we keep data

DataHow long we keep it
Analytics records (page views with the daily hashed identifier)13 months as individual rows, then aggregated into totals that contain no identifier
Affiliate click logs13 months as individual rows, then aggregated in the same way
Contact form messages and emailsUp to 12 months
Server logsA limited period set by our hosting and delivery providers
Google Analytics data, if enabledAccording to the retention setting chosen in Google Analytics (Google offers 2 or 14 months for this type of data)
Cookies and local storageAs listed in our cookie policy

8. Your rights

If you're in the EEA, the UK or another place with similar laws, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy
  • correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete
  • delete your data
  • restrict how we use it in certain circumstances
  • object to our use of it where we rely on legitimate interests
  • portability, meaning a copy of data you gave us in a usable format, where that applies
  • withdraw consent at any time for anything based on consent, without affecting what happened before
  • complain to a data protection supervisory authority, usually the one in the country where you live or work

To use any of these rights, email contact@cs2gamblingreviews.com. We'll respond within one month and may ask for information to confirm the request is yours.

One practical limit: because our analytics identifier changes every day and isn't linked to a name or email address, we usually have no way to find the analytics or click records that relate to you. That's by design. Messages you've sent us are easy to find, correct or delete.

9. Privacy rights for US residents

If you live in California or another US state with a consumer privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to ask us to correct or delete it, and not to be treated differently for exercising these rights.

We collect the following categories of personal information, for the purposes described in section 2: identifiers (your name and email address if you contact us, and the daily hashed identifier), internet or other electronic network activity (pages viewed, referrer, time on page and affiliate clicks), and approximate geolocation (country only).

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act. To make a request, email contact@cs2gamblingreviews.com. You can use an authorized agent, and we'll ask for reasonable proof that the agent acts for you.

10. Children

This site is about gambling and is intended only for people aged 18 or over. We don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has sent us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

11. Security

We protect the data we hold with measures that suit how little of it there is, including encrypted connections across the site, an admin area restricted to site administrators, and hashed identifiers in place of IP addresses in our analytics. No system is perfectly secure, and part of the reason we collect so little is so there's less to protect.

Our pages link to gambling sites, Steam and help organizations. We don't control those sites, and their privacy practices are their own. Read their policies before you share data with them, especially gambling sites, which may ask for identity documents.

13. Changes to this policy

We'll update this policy when the way the site handles data changes, for example if we add a new tool or change a retention period. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. If a change is significant, we'll make that clear on the site.

14. Contact

Questions, requests or complaints about privacy can go to contact@cs2gamblingreviews.com or through our contact page. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
